Boys and their Clothes!
It has been a bit quiet on the Sashamania front lately! Well, there isn't that much to say, really, but I feel that I have been neglecting the boys a bit, so I have decided to post some photos of them wearing their different outfits, such as they are! I should like to have a record of those as well.
What I need are some hints on how to photograph Sasha Dolls. The pictures I take of them always seem a bit grainy - not sharp enough. I have even changed my camera, because I thought that might make a difference. I know it has something to do with natural light, but I would welcome some advice from those who take perfect Sasha pictures!

I think we are all waiting for the rain to stop! The boys look good in all their outfits.
Good photo, despite what you have said about it. You might find a tripod will help - it helps to stop slight camera wobble so you get a crisper image. I usually retouch my photos a tiny bit in photoshop to lighten shadows slightly or brighten the image a tiny bit. I sometimes use a portrait or close up setting on the camera and more recently have been experimenting with completely manual settings. But the tripod is often the best accessory for doll photography (though I don't always use it), and endless tiny adjustments to pose angle to get the most natural look.
good luck
Hi, Romy wants to look like Henry, really! He is halfway there!
Hi, many thanks for your helpful comments. I shall try the tripod. I don't have photoshop now on my new computer, alas, but the Canon softwear does allow a little bit of adjusting. Will try that. I do use the portrait function, but I think you are right, one has to get to grips with the manual settings! And there is the light! Our house is surrounded by lovely trees, but it makes the rooms slightly dark despite the enormous windows. Will have to go outside and maybe see the difference. But many thanks. Very helpful advice! Hopefully you will be able to see the difference when I implement it
Nice picture of the boys. I am a take the picture and hope for the best, then cut and carve on the edit on computer, then just hope its ok!
oooh ive just found your sasha blog and i cant look through it all as its past midnight !....i think your photo is just fine, ive given up taking photos inside as our house is just too dark, so i have to wait for the rain to stop and go outside but even then if its too sunny its a real pain, im always apologising for my photos due to the weather....i think sometimes maybe if you resize photos lots it may make them look grainy but im not sure....i just point and shoot and hope for the best !....i shall enjoy looking at your blog in the morning....sarah x
My reply just vanished!!! I also cut and carve, but a lot of the pictures on other blogs are a lot sharper than mine. I know that light has something to do with it. Everyone has been so kind with their suggestions. I shall get to the bottom of this with everone's help - I hope!
Thank you for your suggestions. I shall look into this resizing business. Could have something to do with it. My husband just said to simply accept that I am not a very good photographer!!! I might make him take the pictures in future!
Like Sarah I too have only just discovered your blog and look forward to visiting it on a regular basis.
I'm afraid that I can't advise you on photographing your dolls as I too just keep my camera on auto focus and then just point and shoot but have the added advantage of natural light in my conservatory. There are no other aides here although I am able to crop my photos if needed....though I have heard that leaving them in their original size and format is the best for their clarity. I have found with regards to the posing of the dolls that practice does indeed help but not make perfect for me.
Great background for this group of interesting Gregors who look as though they are about to get into some mischief.
I think that we are all guilty of not playing with or taking as much notice of our lads or Sasha babies as the girls with their flowing hair and pretty clothing continually steal the camera and limelight. Perhaps we should have certain Gregor or baby weeks on our blogs so that they all get a turn at being centre stage.
Looking forward to watching this space in the future. From Kendal and her 'Sasha Brood.'
Hello Kendal, have been watching your blog with great delight! I think that's a good idea, about putting the boys centre stage from time to time! Maybe, since your blog is very well known, and you have a heap of followers, you could designate a week! That might give us all a bit of focus!
Your boys are great and it's a lovely photo. I mostly just point and shoot on auto, although I do have a tripod, it was a Lidl bargain. I think it does help a lot, when I take the time to use it. Sometimes it's easier to grab a pile of books to lean on :-)
Thank you Mikki, that is very helpful! It seems that good light and a steady hand (tripod!) is the way to go. Everyone has been so kind to pass on their wisdom! It all helps. Hopefully it will show in future pictures!
